Music Visualization
BFA Exhibition Spring 2009
This was a semester long project (4+ months) with research prior to course.
Starting off as a music major and switching over to graphic design, I enjoyed seeing both art worlds and feel so passionately about both. So naturally, I chose this topic for my BFA senior exhibition show. I have always admired the Russian composer Shostakovich and his compositions. His work has many interpretations and it drew me in closer the more I learned about it and performed his works. I wanted to share the different moods and emotions expressed in his music visually and the layers beneath his intentions expressed in his symphony no. 5. I conducted surveys to get people's reaction upon hearing the music clips and created a visual of how the music sounds as well as how the composition was written through instrument icons.
